Abstract
Despite the growth potential of the healthcare industry, the ¡¯public value¡¯ ingredient of the industry often causes conflict of interest regarding the structural changes emphasizing business value. With a wide variety of industry participants including medical service providers, consumers, policy makers, and suppliers, the ecosystem perspective provides a useful frame of analysis to analyze the complicated interaction among them. Explaining the competition and cooperation among the participants, the ecosystem perspective helps the researchers and practitioners understand the structural changes of the industry such as convergence of practice, breakdown of practice boundary, and globalization. Based on the evolutionary perspective, this study explores the possibility of the cooperative co-evolution or ecosystematic development in the healthcare industry. The critical review of the exploitative or non-productively competitive cases are expected to highlight the significance of the co-evolution potential.
